The upcoming DreamWorks Pictures’ film Need for Speed features some incredible cars and equally incredible stunts that required the actors to get a little driver training before filming could start. No, they’re not pulling off the really crazy stuff, but there were some basics that they needed to know.
Actor Dominic Cooper plays the bad guy, Dino Brewster, who is a cocky former NASCAR driver that you’re not going to like at all. He’s the one you’ll be rooting against from the minute he steps on screen.
The hero of the movie, played by Aaron Paul, is Tobey Marshall. He’s a blue-collar guy who ended up being framed by Brewster and did time for a crime he didn’t commit. Now the two are competing against each other in a high-stakes race called De Leon.
There are more fancy car and impossible stunts in this movie than you can shake a stick at, and it’s fantastic. The movie also marks the on-screen debut of the 2015 Ford Mustang, which is of course driven by our hero. It’s actually driven by our hero right off of a cliff, but no worries. It’s tethered to a helicopter and soars through the air like a gorgeous but awkward plane.
Ford aired 20 minutes of the movie, including the helicopter scene and some of the craziest driving stunts, at the Detroit Auto Show. Sure, it was a room full of auto journalists so the deck was stacked, but the cheers were all genuine and I’m still not sure my hearing has recovered. The movie is definitely going to be a must-see when it hits theaters on March 14th!
