BMW X7 Confirmed With Production Slated For Spartanburg Plant

BMW Plant Spartanburg

BMW confirmed today that they will be making a new, larger X model called the BMW X7 and that it will be produced at their facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

They made the announcement along with news that they plan to invest $1 billion in the Spartanburg plant by the year 2016. That investment will help them increase production by 50% from the 300,000 units per year it can currently produce to 450,000 units by the end of 2016.

This investment by BMW will also mean the creation of an additional 800 jobs at the plant. Currently the plant employs a total workforce of 8,000 people. The increased capacity and workforce will also enable the plant to produce the new BMW X7.

The BMW X7 will be slated for the worldwide market, but will be manufactured exclusively at the Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. There were no details forthcoming, other than confirmation of the existence of the BMW X7 which has been nothing but a rumor for the last few weeks. The current X line of vehicles includes the X3, newly introduced X4, X5, and X6 with the X7 rounding thing out at the top of the heap.
