First Impression: 2014 Honda Odyssey – Making Other Moms Jealous

2014 Honda Odyssey

The 2014 Honda Odyssey, as a minivan, is the transportation of choice for Moms everywhere. It holds the kids and all their junk be it a stroller and diaper bag or soccer balls and shin guards. It does the job and, as a Mom who has never owned a minivan, after driving it for just a few hours, I saw the appeal.

There are double sliding doors that open at the push of a button so the kids aren’t whacking the doors into neighboring cars. There are cupholders galore so they’re less likely to spill their drinks. There is even a nice flat space on top of the center console for tossing whatever random stuff you have in your hands when you get behind the wheel.

And the other Moms love it.

You’d almost think I’d driven up to carpool in a shiny red Corvette the way they reacted when they saw the 2014 Honda Odyssey. Several owners of older Honda Odysseys came over to check it out to see “what was better” than their models. And there was even a non-Odyssey owner who looked longingly at it as the car she wanted rather than the minivan she was driving.

How on earth do you make a minivan cool? I’m not sure I know just yet but this one, this one was undoubtedly the cool car at carpool. I’m still marveling at how that happened. Wonder if it has anything to do with that snazzy built-in vacuum?

Nicole Wakelin fell in love with cars as a teenager when she got to go for a ride in a Ferrari. It was red and it was fast and that was all that mattered. Game over. She considers things a bit more carefully now, but still has a weakness for fast, beautiful cars. Nicole also writes for NerdApproved and GeekMom.
