First Impression: Does the 2015 Volvo V60 T5 herald the return of the wagon?

The 2015 Volvo V60 T5 is not a sedan, hatchback, crossover or SUV. It is something much more rare on American roads today…a modern station wagon.

Perhaps the European term “sportswagon” might be a better way to describe this Swedish designed somewhat diminutive modern people hauler.

Under the hood you’ll find a very new and quite modern 2.0L turbo that puts out 240 HP and gets a very respectable combined EPA score of 29 MPG.

Volvo-v60-insideThe first impression when looking at the 2015 Volvo V60 T5 is that it is low, sleek and fast. And getting behind the classic Volvo steering wheel only puts an exclamation on this impression as the car sits low, fits like a glove, and moves off the line with deadpan certainty.

That’s not to say this car is a rocket. It’s fast but not “take your breath away fast”. It’s tight yet still comfortable (at least in the front two seats) and yes it rides and indeed sits very low to the ground. Perhaps it sits and rides almost too low to the ground for the traditional  American Volvo Cross Country wagon buyer.
