BMW M5 30th Anniversary Edition Announced

30th Anniversary BMW M5

BMW has announced that they will be producing a special 30th Anniversary BMW M5 in a very limited production run of 300 copies worldwide. The US market will see just 30 units of the vehicle available.

The BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” will have 600 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, making it not just the most powerful M5 ever sold but also the most powerful BMW production model ever. The starting price of the 30th Anniversary BMW M5 will be $138,275.

The first 29 copies will go to the first 29 customers who reserve it by dialing the dedicated BMW Customer Relations hotline at 1:00pm EDT on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. What happens to that 30th copy? It goes to BMW of North America who may or may not sell it sometime in the future.

Those who purchase the car will also get a special treat. They’ll each receive access to a one-day event at the M Driving School at The Thermal Club in Palm Springs, California. This will be held in the Fall with the exact date yet to be announced.

The 30th Anniversary BMW M5 will have the 4.4 liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine from the M5 with Competition Package and receives 25 more horsepower from increased turbocharger pressure and engine control module enhancements. It’ll do 0 to 60 mph in an estimated 3.7 seconds and also has a dedicated control module which allows the Active M Differential a better reaction time and improved traction exiting corners.

The exterior of the 30th Anniversary BMW M5 will be Frozen Dark Silver Metallic with Black Chrome “30 Jahre M5” badges on the kidney grill surrounds, front fenders, door handles and twin dual exhaust pipes. There will also be badges on the inteior with “30 Jahre M5” embroidered onto the seats and a 1/300 identification number integrated into the Aluminum Trace trim strip on the front passenger side of the vehicle.

BMW is taking a unique approach to generating a little social media buzz for the occasion by revealing the phone number for the reservation hotline on their Instagram channel. Over the five days leading up to May 21 a portion of the number will be disclosed each day.
