Nissan Leaf Recall Could Mean Replacing Whole Vehicle

Vehicle recalls aren’t something unusual, but a new 2014 Nissan Leaf recall that could mean replacing the whole car rather than just a part or two is something very unusual.

The recall was announced today due to a problem with how a small number of 2014 Nissan Leaf models were assembled. They are recalling 211 vehicles in the US and another 65 in Canada in order to inspect them for possible missing spot welds.

All the recalled 2014 Nissan Leaf vehicles were manufactured between February 28 and March 12 of this year and will be checked for six different spot welds located on the front structural member assembly. Vehicles without these welds would have reduced structural integrity in the event of a crash.

The potentially missing welds are located on each side of the motor by the sway bar ends. If inspections show that the welds are there, then the customer can take their car and be on their way. If the welds are missing, then things get a little more complicated. Nissan will completely replace any vehicles with these missing welds at no cost to owners.

No accidents or injuries have been reported due to the missing welds.
