Stop the Presses: A New Mazda MX-5 Miata is Coming September 3rd!

miata

In The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the answer to everything is 42. In the automotive realm, the answer is always Miata. All of the rumors and speculation can be put to rest about a new version. On September 3rd, 2014 Mazda will show the entire world the next generation MX-5 Miata, built on SKYACTIV technologies.

Mazda is taking a page out of Ford’s book by doing a global launch of the new car. It will be unveiled simultaneously as a 2016 model in the United States, Japan and Spain. Also, during an event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on the 5th-7th, Mazda will have the new car on display along with classic Miatas. That event will also be open to the public.

Mazda teased us at the 2014 New York International Auto Show by showing off the SKYACTIV chassis of the new Miata, but not showing the actual car. One thing they definitely do right at Mazda is knowing how to tease us enthusiasts. It’s easy to wax poetic about this little roadster. While it might not make a lot of power, it has sublime handling and is an absolute joy to drive.

We, of course, will bring you all the latest Miata news as the launch nears. In the meantime, check out Emme’s review of the current Miata. She literally sings the car’s praises.
