This test mule of (what we think is) the 2017 Subaru Impreza hints at a wider model than the current Impreza. The tiny slit north of the hood is deceptive. No, it doesn’t look like it’s a functional size for a WRX-like scoop, and it may be there to throw-off speculation.
Scuttlebutt has it: the 2017 Subaru Impreza will have Subaru’s new global modular architecture platform. It’s a lighter, yet – stronger platform than the one it replaces. It is also said that this platform is very flexible and will underpin all of Subaru’s next generation vehicles.
I speculated that this was a five-door Subaru WRX test mule at first. But, after checking around and noticing the lack of any high performance additions (tires, wheels, brakes – etc), it seems like this test mule could very well be a 2017 Subaru Impreza.
I heard it running, it sounded unusual for a Subaru. I don’t think it was a plug-in hybrid, which is supposed to be coming our way soon. It may have a new boxer engine with equal-length headers, like the current 2.0-liter. It didn’t grumble, that’s for sure. Yes, this is an odd one.
Special thanks to TFL friend Marc who put me on the trail of this one!
