Bro, we know the FIAT 500L-Vans Design Concept debuted in July at the Vans US open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, CA. It represents one of the better looking customizations the FIAT 500L has received. Based on the classic Vans SK8-Hi shoe, FIAT captured the beach-vibe with a package that looks like a ton of fun.
Truth be told, my driving shoes (high-performance/track-driving) are Vans SK8-Hi.
Check out all of those Vans logo stickers on the instrument panel, very skater/surfer-centric, and the palms patterned in canvas, covering the seats? It’s awesome. Vans Waffle Sole pattern covers the pedals and the same pattern is in the storage bins too.
Externally, 18-inch matte black wheel, aggressive-looking rubber and a bit of a suspension lift. There’s a two-tone body color paint job that looks a bit like the Vans Sk8‑Hi with the navy and white scheme. Finally, there’s a double-decker surfboard carrier attached to the roof rack witch also houses a basket.
“When we started working with Vans, we found that their brand is very youthful and free spirited, just like FIAT is,” Irina Zavatski, Exterior Design Manager for FIAT brand, said. She goes on to say, “When we started working with Vans, we found that their brand is very youthful and free spirited, just like Fiat is.”
One of the reasons TFLcar is spotlighting the FIAT 500L-Vans Design Concept has to do with the introduction of the FIAT 500X. Many feel that the overall look of the all-wheel drive FIAT 500X is the way the 500L should have looked like from day one. I agree. Still, when I beheld the FIAT 500L-Vans Design Concept, I knew there is a bit of esthetic potential with the current FIAT 500L.
“I think the Vans Culture really affected the FIAT 500L Vans edition,” Ashley Niemen, Interior designer for FIAT brand said. ”It kind of gives that adventure lifestyle the customer feels, and allows them to get up and go and take whatever they need with them to do that.”
By the way, those round holes in front, the ones that look like driving/off-road lights? I think they’re speakers.
I think FIAT should turn the FIAT 500L-Vans Design Concept into production reality. Why not dude? Special editions can be pretty popular, and, given the lukewarm reception the current 500L is getting, maybe something uique like the FIAT 500L-Vans Design Concept would be a winner.
Speaking of slick small cars…
