2016 Jaguar F-Type R AWD

How do you improve the 550 horsepower F-Type Coupe R? How about the 2016 Jaguar F-Type R AWD! That’s right. The sexy coupe with one of the most visceral exhaust notes on the market is getting the confident all-weather capability with the help of all-wheel-drive.

Jaguar says calls the new drivetrain “instinctive”. They were careful to preserve the rear-wheel drive character, which is highly important to the F-Type sports car. The system is said to provide improved traction and confidence in a variety of road conditions.

Of course, it has other benefits. Jaguar says that the R Coupe AWD is capable of 3.9 second 0-60 sprints (this is slightly better than the 4.0 seconds in the RWD version). The top speed in unaffected and is still limited to 186 mph. At this time, we can assume that the F-Type R AWD still has the same supercharged 5.0L V8 with 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque.

Jaguar also said that the 2016 model year will double the F-Type model range to 12 variations. Presumably, every engine variant (from the base F-Type to the F-Type S) will get the available AWD system. This would make Jaguar better positioned in market to go up against the likes of the Porsche 911 4, 4S, and Turbo.

The rest of the details will be revealed at 2:40pm PST on Nov 19th at the 2014 LA Auto Show. TFLcar will be there to bring you all the latest.

Here we have a 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe R taking on the Loveland mountain pass in the rain! It got sideways a few times. All wheel drive would have been very helpful.
