The long awaited top dog Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang is out of the Ford barn and has galloped into the bright light of day. According to Ford, the new Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang will get the most powerful naturally aspirated Ford production engine ever. As you may recall the last generation for Ford’s iconic Shelby Mustang featured a supercharged V8.

Ford has yet to release any hard HP numbers but here are the facts according to today’s Ford’s Press Release:

“GT350 is powered by a unique, high-revving flat-plane crankshaft 5.2-liter V8 engine that will produce more than 500 horsepower – the most powerful naturally aspirated Ford production engine ever”

Brand-Spankin-NEW-FinalHow much horsepower will the 5.2L engine really crank out? Considering that the Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcats both produce 707 HP Ford will have to step up in order to keep up with their Detroit rivals.

But for now Ford is keeping many other specs of the  new Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang secret.  Here’s what we know today. According to Ford, the Shelby GT350 Mustang will feature:

  • -Advanced materials,
  • -MagneRide dampers
  • -Aggressive brakes and finely tuned aerodynamics push the performance of Mustang to previously unmatched levels

Today’s Ford press release also says that this newest Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang is designed to be a serious track tool. In other words, the engineering focus of the new Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang is for the track and not necessary for the drag strip.

“When we started working on this car, we wanted to build the best possible Mustang for the places we most love to drive – challenging back roads with a variety of corners and elevation changes – and the track on weekends,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “Every change we made to this car was driven by the functional requirements of a powerful, responsive powerplant – nimble, precise handling and massive stopping power.”
