“The 2016 Chevrolet Volt provides our owners with a no-compromise electric driving experience,” said Alan Batey, president of GM North America. “We believe our engineering prowess combined with data from thousands of customers allows us to deliver the most capable plug-in vehicle in the industry.”

General Motors says that everything about the 2016 Chevy Volt was developed for easier use, including charging the battery, checking charge status, and intuitiveness of the instrument panel’s controls.

Highlights of the 2016 Chevy Volt include a new two-motor drive unit which GM claims is up to 12 percent more efficient and 100 pounds lighter than its predecessor. The design, they said, foster 19-percent-stronger 0-30 MPH acceleration.

The engine has been replaced with a new 1.5-L range-extender unit, which is designed to run on regular unleaded fuel. Combined efficiency is rated at 41 MPG, although an official EPA estimate is pending.

Additionally, battery capacity has increased to 18.4 kWh using 192 cells (92 fewer than the current generation), despite weight of the pack having been reduced by over 20 pounds.

A new feature, “Regen on Demand,” enables driver control of energy regeneration via a convenient paddle on the back of the steering wheel.

The 2016 Chevy Volt’s body features a stronger structure and quieter ride, supplemented by a new five-passenger seating layout with available heated rear seats.

The 2016 Chevy Volt goes on sale in the second half of 2015.
