The fully redesigned 2016 Chevy Malibu comes out swinging with new styling, a larger cabin, and a Hybrid model that is capable of an estimated 48 MPG in the city. It is looking like a serious player in the crowded and highly competitive segment.

The Hybrid claims a total system output of 182 horsepower that is sent to the front wheels via a two-motor electric drive unit. This power transmission is a technology which was first introduced on the Silverado pickup truck two-mode hybrids. This is the next iteration of the technology. The car has two ranges of operation: a lower range for slow speeds and a higher (or overdrive) range for faster cruising.

The 2016 Malibu will also come with a 1.5L turbo with 160 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. The hot-rod of the bunch will be the 2.0L turbo with 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The gasolines powered variants will use a traditional 6-speed automatic transmission.
