Nearly a year after the new C-Class sedan went for sale in the United States, Mercedes-Benz brings the world the C300 Coupe, putting the sedan’s lightweight construction and fuel efficiency in a swoopy, two-door body.

The new coupe shares the same prominent front end as the sedan, but the coupe’s sloping roofline extends further back than the sedan, giving the short rear decklid a fastback-like shape, down to the integrated lip spoiler on the trunk.

The coupe also has a strong character line on the side of the car that extends all the way to the taillights. The coupe is 0.6 inches lower than the sedan, and comes with 18-inch wheels standard.

Inside, the coupe starts with the same interior as the sedan, sharing the large touchscreen in the middle and the same controls on the center console. The touch interface was less intuitive than the control knob during TFLcar’s review of the C300 Sedan, so the coupe should have the same ergonomic characteristics.

The front seats have been redesigned specifically for the coupe and the interior is available in three unique colors – saddle brown, porcelain and nut brown/black with turquoise stitching. In back, the coupe foregoes the sedan’s three-passenger setup for two dedicated seats with cupholders in the middle.

Under the hood, the C300 and C300 4MATIC coupes share the sedan’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, making 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. In the sedan, the setup is rated at 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, so the coupe’s numbers should be similar.

The suspension is the same setup as the sedan’s, but with stiffer springs and dampers. It is also available with Airmatic air suspension, which provides continuously adjustable damping and can be put into Eco, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes, along with an Individual mode where the driver can customize the suspension settings.

Like the sedan, the coupe comes with a host of driver aids to help prevent accidents. Attention Assist and Collision Prevention Assist Plus are both standard. Attention Assist warns the driver of inattentiveness and drowsiness, although in the TFL test car, it constantly nagged the driver to take a break. The sensitivity is adjustable, though. Collision Prevention Assist Plus gives an audible warning when close to another car or object, and will apply the brakes if the driver doesn’t respond, all the way up to 124 mph.

Other driver aids available on the coupe include adaptive cruise control, brake pressure assist and lane keeping assist.

The C300 Coupe will go on sale in the U.S. in Spring of 2016. Pricing has not yet been announced.
