Toyota is ready to unleash the first-ever RAV4 hybrid, as well as a sporty SE model, and TFLcar.com was there to gather all the details and take a ride. The SE trim line we got to explore featured 18-inch wheels, an all-new front end from the hood down, and most notably, a new sport-tuned suspension that’s been designed to provide occupants more comfort on bumpy roads and more stability on smooth roads.

All non-hybrid 2016 RAV4 models will be powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder that produces 176 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. Power will be sent to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. Gasoline models will achieve around 24/31 city/hwy mpg, depending on trim line.

Hybrid RAV4 models get the 2.5L engine and 2 electric motors to assist in forward propulsion, making a combined total of 194 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. Hybrids will come with a CVT and be rated at 34/31 city/hwy mpg. Creature comforts for the new RAV4 include a standard power lift gate on XLE models and above, LED-illuminated center console, and an available birds eye view camera that gives a 360 degree view when the vehicle is moving at less than 7 mph. According to a Toyota representative, the RAV4 also boasts one of the segment’s highest cargo capacities.

Behind the scenes TFLcar and TFLtruck videographer Ian Chisholm filmed his ride-along through the streets of Orange County to bring you a passenger’s view of the new RAV4. With compact crossovers still holding a massive amount of automotive market share, we expect the vehicle to continue to be cash cow for Toyota… check out the video below.
