Chevrolet announced the return of the 1LE Performance Package for the sixth generation Camaro. The original 1LE performance package was developed to make the Camaro competitive in SCCA showroom stock racing for the ’89 Camaro IROC-Z and did not officially exist as an option. Basically, it was a way to purchase a race car using GM’s back door. The modern package developed for the 2017 Camaro is an official performance option and has the same purpose – to transform a street machine into a street-legal, competitive track machine.

The 1LE performance package improves the Camaro’s handling and track performance, with more aggressive suspension tuning, standard Brembo brakes and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. Also available are Recaro seats and a Performance Data Recorder.

“The Camaro 1LE packages follow a recipe any track-day enthusiast will appreciate,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “Start with a lightweight, stiff structure and then add higher levels of suspension stiffness and damping, more aggressive tires, higher downforce, more powerful brakes and more cooling.

The Camaro SS is equipped with a 455 horsepower V8 and the LT models have a 335 horsepower V6.

The V8 package includes magnetic ride control, a suede steering wheel, a satin graphite front splitter and rear diffuser, a data recording system, FE4 suspension tuning and electronic limited slip differential,
