Ferrari unveiled the latest iteration of its customer racing cars at the Ferrari World Finals event at the Daytona National Speedway last weekend. The new car is the 488 Challenge. Ferrari Challenge is an international racing series for Ferrari customers. It’s a one manufacturer (Ferrari) spec series. The 488 Challenge car is the 6th iteration and it will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series next year.
This racing car builds on a successful platform of the production 488 GTB V8. However, the race car has special engine and transmission tuning gearing, lighter-weight components, and a full racing cage and other racing safety equipment. The 488 Challenge is the first turbocharged Ferrari to race in this series. The 3.9-liter V8 produces 660 horsepower and the F1 DCT transmission features a new racing mode which allows the car to accelerate from standstill to maximum revs in 4th gear with six seconds. You can be sure that this a fast race car. In fact, the 488 Challenge car chopped off an entire second off the Fiorano lap time of the preceding 458 Challenge EVO for a new record of 1:15.5.
Here is another Ferrari icon – the F40. The F40 packed raw emotion into a road-going racing car.
