Kia have come a long way since their bargain-basement roots, in a large part thanks to Hyundai’s purchase back in 1998. Technically still their own company – Hyundai is the largest stakeholder – they nonetheless share platforms and powertrains with their Korean cousins. This increase in quality, capability and styling, along with their continued bargain pricing, makes Kia a viable contender in the U.S. market.
