Kia Soul tops subcompact car sales for 2016, and is also the brand’s best seller [News]

The Kia Soul stayed as the top selling subcompact car for December, and had the most sales in its class for 2016.

Kia sold 12,427 Souls in December. The amount of sales far surpassed the second place vehicle, the Nissan Versa, which sold 8,918 vehicles in December. For 2016, Kia sold 145,768 of the Souls, sales figures showed.

Kia saw a slight decrease in the number of sales of the Soul from 2015 to 2016 with a 0.9 percent decrease.

Rounding out the top five in the subcompact car segment besides the Soul and the Versa was the Chevrolet Sonic in the third spot with 6,375 vehicles sold, the Honda Fit in fourth with 4,425 vehicles sold and the Chevrolet Spark with 4,257 vehicles sold, sales figures showed.

When comparing sales in the months of December 2015 and December 2016 two vehicles saw triple-digit increases. The Spark saw an increase of 207.6 percent in sales when looking at those two months, and the Toyota Yaris saw a 101.6 percent increase when looking at those two months.

The Yaris, however, was second to last in terms of sales for December with 760 sold. During 2016, Toyota sold 10,872 of the Yaris, and saw a 35.2 percent decrease in sales of the vehicle form 2015 to 2016, sales figures showed.

When looking at figures from 2015 to 2016. The Scion iA/Toyota Yaris iA also saw a triple-digit increase of 268 vehicles sold.

Other vehicles in the subcompact car segment also saw some healthy sales increases from 2015 in 2016. The Hyundai Accent saw a 29.7 percent increase in sales, while the Kia Rio saw a 20.9 percent increase, sales figures showed.

On the flip side several companies saw a double-digit decrease in sales from 2015 to 2016. Besides the Yaris’ 35.2 percent decrease, the Fiat 500L saw a 59 percent decrease, the MINI Cooper 2-door saw a 43.1 percent decrease, the Fiat 500 saw a 36 percent decrease, the Ford Fiesta saw a 24.3 percent decrease and the Sonic saw a 14.7 percent decrease, sales figures showed.
