The 2017 Mazda CX-9 is a sexy (yes sexy) three row crossover that’s meant to haul you and your stuff. It is the quintessential modern all-wheel-drive crossover family hauler and yet Mazda has managed to make it special.
Starting with the engine, you would expect a vehicle that can seat 7 people to have at least a V6 if not a V8. Instead, the 2017 Mazda CX-9 is equipped with a turbocharged inline-4 that produces 250 HP and 310 lb-ft. This seems like a very small powerplant for a big family hauler and yet as you can see in the TFL live 0-60 MPH video review below the 2017 Mazda CX-9 is no slouch.
In fact with so much torque down low in the powerband the 2017 Mazda CX-9 drives like it is powered by a diesel engine instead of a gasoline inline-4 turbo.
But the engine bay is not where the Mazda’s goodness ends. Once inside the interior of the 2017 Mazda CX-9 is simply outstanding. This car most certainly lives above its pay grade when it comes to quality, fit and finish and design of the interior. If you missed the big round Mazda badge on the car’s nose, from behind the wheel you’d think you were driving a premium luxury car. Everything you touch, everything you see inside the Mazda says premium.
But you know what, instead of just telling you let Nathan show you in this TFL live 0-60 MPH video review below. We take the car around the TFL test track and Nathan does several 0-60 MPH runs to find out if a turbocharged inline-4 has enough power for three row AWD crossover.
