Driving the Jeep Quicksand Concept: An 4WD Off-Road Worthy Hot Rod Wrangler? [Video]

Every year, Jeep introduces fun concepts at the Easter Jeep Safari and, without a doubt, the Jeep Quicksand Concept is our favorite. It combines a 1950’s hotrod with a beach-buggy Jeep. The result is a useless, foolish, ridiculous, wonderful and dreamy machine. It growls in two pitches – “loud” and “obnoxious” with a flip of a switch. Seriously.

Unlike something practical like the Jeep Trailpass Concept or a hint of things to come like the Jeep Safari Concept, the Jeep Quicksand Concept is meant to inspire and entertain. Maybe a Jeep-fanatic will find a way to -build a practical version of the Jeep Quicksand Concept. It’s off-road-T-Bucket folly – and that’s a great thing!

Here’s some of what they bolted on to the Jeep Quicksand Concept:

  • A Mopar 392 V8 Crate Engine (with Borla injection) bolted to a six-speed manual
  • The basis of the Jeep Quicksand Concept is a regular 2-door Wrangler, streached 6″
  • Unique Header exaust system that can be open and closed with an electric auctuator
  • It’s a 4X4 with 77.2:1 front and 86.8:1 rear crawl ratio. Dana 44 front axle and 60 rear axle
  • Custom flip-forward hood and a sprayed-in bedliner floor
  • Front tires are 32″ and rear are 37″ BFG Mud Terrain KM2 tires mounted to 18″ alloy with (old school) center knock-offs
  • Custom fuel cell and custom cast aluminum fuel doors
  • A Warn 9.0Rc winch (hidden in a fake “Moon Tank”)
  • Plexi-glass, fold-out front windshield
  • Velocity stack injection. Yes, old school velocity stacks that looks amazing and are fairly useless in the sand… which is where we tested the Jeep.

As bananas as the Jeep Quicksand Concept is, we just adore it. It has Big Daddy and Rat Fink written all over it’s DNA (and keychain), but it’s still fairly driveable. Man it’s a fun vehicle to experience!
