Efficient Justice: the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid Responder Police Vehicle

2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid Responder Police Vehicle

The 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid Responder Police vehicle is a pursuit-rated machine that will hit the streets soon. It’s part of Ford’s 4.5 billion dollar investment to electrify 13 vehicles. The 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid Responder Police vehicle came about after Ford learned that the NYPD converted regular Ford Fusion Hybrids into police cars.

Pursuit-rated means, the vehicle has successfully completed a battery of (3rd party) tests held in conjunction with the LAPD and Michigan State Police Department that rate the vehicle’s overall ability. According to Ford, this vehicle has been upgraded (cooling, brakes etc) to aid it in becoming “pursuit rated.”

One of the benefits is excellent economy, up to 38 mpg, but there is another benefit as well: loitering. Many civilians don’t realize that one of the things police vehicle do is sit idling for hours-on-end all the time. At the scene of an incident, a police car has to leave its engine on to keep the lights rolling. In a hybrid, it’s much less of an issue.

Andre interviewed Steve Tyler from Ford Motor Company on the floor of the 2017 New York Auto Show and discovered there’s a lot of goodness that the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid Responder Police vehicle can bring to the NYPD and other law enforcement agencies.

Pricing has not been announced, but Ford says it will be on the streets next summer (2018). Check out this video for more information!
