Look out 2022, here comes the All-Electric Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Microbus

It’s official, Volkswagen confirmed that the Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Microbus will go in to production in 2022. Announced on August 19th 2017 at the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California, the Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Microbus will be similar to the concept unveiled at the 2016 CES. It won’t be alone as there will be a cargo-van variant too. This van will be a Level 3 electric vehicle with, according to Volkswagen, the latest autonomous vehicle technology.

According to a Volkswagen insider, this is part of Volkswagen’s commitment to greener technology.

The Chairmen of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brands, Dr Herbert Diess and Dr Eckhard Scholz, announced their production decision today at the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California, a unique show for both extraordinary historic cars and new concept vehicles. “Just the right place for the I.D. BUZZ,” explains Diess. “The vehicle is an important pillar in Volkswagen’s electric drive initiative and carries the Microbus driving feeling into the future.”

Stats and specifications have yet to be officially announced, but we do know that the platform Volkswagen’s new modular “MEB” electric-car platform. It will share its platform with the upcoming Volkswagen I.D. hatchback which goes into production in 2020. Best of all for folks who those who need all-wheel drive (AWD), the Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Microbus will have that as an option as well.
