• Drag Race! 2017 Infiniti Q50s Red Sport vs. 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG E43 [Video]

Thanks to a quirk sent from heaven, TFL ended up with two of the hotter sports sedans on sale today at the same time: the 2017 Infiniti Q50s Red Sport and the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG E43. Both even came with a hot red paint job. That can only mean one thing, a drag race. Roman pilots the Benz while Nathan steers the Infiniti. The two brands compete against each other in Formula 1 each week, so how do they do on our high-altitude track? Watch the video to find out how all-wheel drive does against rear-wheel drive; a 9-speed automatic against a 7-speed automatic; and what a difference $30,000 in price makes.

    1. Your curb weights seem a bit off. The Q50 Red Sport AWD weighs 4,006 lbs. The rear wheel drive version weighs 3,870 lbs.

      The AMG weighs 4,145 lbs

      1. Ah shoot, Eric. You are correct. Silly me, I went to Infiniti’s Media Site to grab the specs on the Q50 and got that 4,980 lbs. figure. And upon double-checking, the Infiniti site has that number posted. Thanks for the catch. I’ve corrected the post.

    2. Never thought I’d say choose an Infiniti over the benz, between price and style comfort this seems to a clear choice. now my question is in ten years from now how relevant will they be and who’s will drop in price the most and when dynoed who will produce the claimed power benz has always been pretty good in this area

      1. Actually, the Q50 red sport has already been dynoed and it is coming in at 379 wheel horse power which is approximately 440 brake horse power

      1. In ten years most of us will be driving all electric vehicles which will out perform everything that is gas engine that exists today.

    3. If the only measure of a car were a drag race! I test drove both and bought the E43 in a heartbeat. Though these cars may have a close drag race that is it, the E43 leaves the infinity pretty much in the dust in every other parameter. It handles a lot better, handles better, rides better, brakes better and is not even in the same planet in interior design or luxuriousness. This is a comparison of cars that are too dissimilar not only in price but in category. A fairer comparison would have been a C43, a car that is similar in price and just as fast as the Q. The C43 is also slightly faster than the E43 given its lower weight and almost identical powertrain (same engine with slightly less boost). However the Q might have otherwise faired better in comparison given that the C is noticeably less sophisticated overall than the E version.
