Potential Model 3 owners now have the change to configure their Model 3 with Tesla’s online configurator.

Getting the Tesla Model 3 out the door to its waiting customers has been a challenge for Elon Musk. Tesla’s CEO even admitted testing and manufacturing weren’t going as planned when he tweeted in October, “We are deep in production hell.” It came as a surprise, then, to potential Model 3 owners when they received invitations to design their cars using the company’s online configurator.

According to Teslarati, select customers are receiving an email to configure the design of their soon-to-be-delivered Model 3. Based on your place in the queue and location, you may receive the option to customize your car. What is even more surprising is the “Delivery in 4 weeks” message on the Model 3 build page. Could Santa Claus and his elves be working the get Model 3 sedans delivered to lucky customers by late December?

All year long, Model 3 production has been hampered by bottlenecks while the company overcomes the challenges of mass producing a car. The big plan was to crank out 5,000 cars per week by the end of this year. With 222 Model 3 owners taking delivery in Q3 2017,  Tesla isn’t close to hitting that mark. Bearing that in mind, Tesla’s now saying they’ll hit that production goal by March 2018. If most of their production hurdles are in the rearview, perhaps they can meet that new goal.

Tesla Model 3 Pricing

The Model 3 starts at $35,000 before options and tax incentives. It’s lower entry price and the incentives are important steps toward making Tesla a high-volume automaker. If you were one of 400,000 who shelled out a $1,000 deposit to reserve a Model 3, your light at the end of the tunnel just got a little brighter.

Can you remember when Tesla introduced the Model 3? Here is a refresher if you’ve forgotten. These are some of the details as to what makes the Model 3 a game changer for Tesla:
