In another major announcement, Ford confirms the next Shelby GT500 is coming in 2019!
Just when you thought the Mustang Bullitt was the last of the Mustang news to come out of this Detroit Auto Show, we received another bombshell from Ford. The all-new Shelby GT500 is coming in 2019.
This will be Ford’s most powerful production car to date. Let’s put that into perspective. Before it was sent to pasture, the last GT500 put out 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque. This new GT500? More than 700 horsepower. That makes it twice as powerful as the original, 1967 GT500.
We broke the news that the Shelby GT500 is coming through some leaked photos back in December. Thanks to that information, we know this 700 horsepower is coming from a supercharged, 5.2-liter V8. Ford hasn’t released any other specifics, but it’ll be fun to speculate whether the GT500 will share some of the GT350’s agility, or if it will be a pure, rip-snorting tire shredder.
