JLWrangler Forums revealed the pricing of the 2.0-liter engine for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL

JLWranglerForums just revealed, through a recent post, that the 2.0-liter turbo engine is now available to order in the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. If you want a 2.0-liter engine in your new JL, that’ll be $1,000 extra to you.

If you were hoping to have the 2.0-liter engine with a six-speed manual, you’re fresh out of luck. The four-cylinder unit will only be available with an 8-speed automatic transmission – a $2,000 upgrade over the manual. As a result, the premium for the 2.0-liter could be up to $3,000 if you weren’t already planning to order your Wrangler JL with an automatic.

The 2018 Wrangler is hitting dealerships now with its good old powertrain, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. That engine puts out 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Going the turbocharged route and speccing the top-of-the-range four-cylinder engine will net you 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Which would you choose: the larger, more powerful engine, or the smaller, torquier unit? FCA is also bringing a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel down the pike, and the Wrangler will even get a hybrid option in 2020.

While a member of JLWranglerForums was kind enough to provide pricing information for the new 2.0-liter engine, no MPG information is available at time of writing.

2/7/18 HEADLINE CORRECTION: The original headline stated the 2.0-liter engine option costs $1,000. It can cost up to $3,000 depending on whether buyers were already ordering a Wrangler JL with an automatic transmission (a $2,000 option). This article’s headline has been revised to reflect the potential cost of upgrading the transmission as well as the engine.
