2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro Hits the Gym: See What’s Changed Here! [Video]

New Fox shocks, protective gear hits the new 4Runner TRD Pro

Toyota’s hardcore TRD Pro lineup is back for an encore. Today, the company is showing off its latest 2019 models at the Chicago Auto Show, including the new 4Runner TRD Pro. On the surface, not a whole lot has changed from the previous models. The 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra still get the same treatment, with matte black TRD wheels and old-style “TOYOTA” badge treatment across the grille. However, underneath the unique TRD Pro styling, Toyota has made some changes under the skin.

Starting from the minor changes, TRD Pros from 2019 will be available in three colors. If you order the 4Runner TRD Pro, for example, you’ll be able to order it in Super White (pictured above), Midnight Black Metallic or Voodoo Blue. The 4Runner TRD Pro also gets a new roof rack. On the inside, the 4Runner is treated to TRD Pro floor mats, shift knob, and red-stitched Softex seats with TRD logos on the headrests. Underneath, there’s a white-painted skid plate emblazoned with “TRD” across the front.

To complement the aesthetic treatment, the 4Runner TRD Pro also gets the 17-inch matte black alloy wheels. Toyota has changed the offset to provide the 4Runner with a 1-inch wider track, and they provide grippy Nitto Terra Grappler P265/70R17 All-Terrain tires. So far as we can tell, the 4Runner retains its naturally aspirated, 4.0-liter V6 engine and 5-speed automatic transmission.

About that suspension

Most importantly, the 4Runner TRD Pro, as with the Tacoma and Tundra, get all-new, beefed up Fox shocks. The 2.5-inch front shocks use 46 mm pistons with 7 bypass zones (4 compression, 3 rebound) to the old shocks’ 5 zones. The new rear shocks feature 11 bypass zones (7 compression, 4 rebound) to the old shocks’ 7 zones. Specially tuned front springs give the 4Runner an extra inch of lift and wheel travel over other trim levels.

TRD Tacoma and Tundra

The 4Runner isn’t the only TRD Pro to get a special Fox shock treatment, either. Toyota upgraded the suspension in the Tacoma and Tundra as well. To check out which upgrades you can get for those trucks, including the Tacoma’s “Desert Air Intake”, head over to TFLtruck.com! All three TRD Pro models will go on sale this fall.
