Daimler AG revealed the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury crossover concept in Beijing.

There’s your raft of high-end luxury crossovers – Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, BMW and the like – and then there are these. Daimler AG – known colloquially as Mercedes-Benz – has just revealed a new crossover concept to compete with Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Meet the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept. And it looks every bit as over-the-top as its name suggests. Daimler teased the concept yesterday, and now we get to have a proper look at it.

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept is 207 inches long, 83 inches wide, and 69 inches tall. Apart from its exterior dimensions, it has chrome everywhere, including its massive wheels. Interestingly, rather than a more utilitarian, SUV-style crossover, this looks more like a high-riding sedan. It even has a trunk like an ordinary sedan.

Move around the back, and that definitely becomes clear. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept applies several design elements from Maybach branded sedans, then throws in the 24-inch wheels for good measure. To make the chrome stand out even further, this particular concept is finished in deep red paint, with “Ultimate Luxury” badges all around the car.

Business jet interior?

Inside, the Mercedes-Maybach Vision concept is full of luxurious trim, as you’d expect in a Maybach. It accommodates just four people, but we all know what these cars are really used for. Most of the time, cars like these are chauffeur-driven, mainly to shuttle one incredibly affluent person to and from billion-dollar deals. Despite the traditional leather and wood trim, however, there are thoroughly modern touches. Up front, for instance, the cockpit is typical modern Mercedes. That means dual 12.3-inch screens conveying all the information a chauffeur could ever need.

This luxury liner is electric – literally

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept doesn’t just make a statement with a sumptuous interior, however. While you may expect a hulking V8 or V12 engine under the hood, you get nothing of the sort. Instead, this concept uses a quartet of electric motors – one at each wheel – to ferry its VIP occupants from A to B. An 80 kWh battery gives the car a range of 200 miles. You can also charge it up enough to drive 100 kilometers (62 miles) using a 350 kW charger in just five minutes.

Then there’s the performance. Thanks to those four electric motors, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept puts out 750 horsepower. That’s 130 more than the V12-powered Mercedes-Maybach S650 sedan. Acceleration figures aren’t currently available, but the car’s top speed is reportedly pegged at 155 miles per hour.

This concept is on display now at Auto China in Beijing. While this car may not make it to actual production, some design elements might make their way to the new Mercedes-Benz GLS.
