AMG Showdown: E43 vs C43 – Which is Faster? [Video]

E43 Sedan vs. C43 Coupe: Which is  quicker?

The AMG 43 Series is the entry level to the AMG performance line of Mercedes’ most popular models. The C-Class and E-Class are two of the brand’s best-selling models, and these two are the most affordable way to get your hands on some performance as well. With the C43 starting at $55,900 and the E43 starting at $71,600, neither are exactly cheap. However, thanks to their 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engines, both are quick. Seriously quick. In fact, just one-tenth of a second separates these two models according to Mercedes-AMG.

E43 vs C43 - which is quicker?
Which is quicker – the Mercedes-AMG E43 sedan or C43 coupe?

The 362 horsepower Mercedes-AMG C43 hits 60 from a stop in 4.6 seconds. The 396 horsepower Mercedes-AMG E43 sedan, on the other hand, charges from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, despite being larger than the C43 coupe. So, with a 34 horsepower advantage, will the E43 vs C43 challenge shake out in the larger sedan’s favor at a mile above sea level? Or will the C43 coupe’s lower weight win the day? Check out the video above as our professional racing driver, Paul, wrings the power out of the E43. How will he fare against Andre in the smaller C43 coupe?

As it turns out, the C43 edged ahead of the larger E43 by nearly half a second in our real-world testing. Paul managed a 5.5-second 0-60 run in the AMG E43 sedan, while Andre hit the mark in just 5.18 seconds piloting the AMG C43 coupe. As tested, the C43 also rang in at $72,855 – $18,320 less than the more expensive, $91,175 E43. Of course, the larger E-Class sedan does offer more practicality, but in this E43 vs C43 comparison, the smaller, lighter coupe may be the one to go for if you’re looking to enter into the world of Mercedes performance.
