The Jeep Wrangler Golden Eagle and Freedom Editions Are The Most American Models You Can Get Down Under [News]

Jeep Australia just went all-out America with the Wrangler Golden Eagle and Freedom special editions.

The Jeep Wrangler is an American icon. With its history stretching back more than seven decades to World War II, its a model that’s central to the brand’s identity. Here at home, the Wrangler is about as American as it gets, but Jeep Australia may just have America beat with these two special editions. As the Wrangler JK ends production, these models are meant to send it out with a bang.

Both the Golden Eagle and Freedom editions are based on the Wrangler JK Sport, with just 270 total units available. Australian Jeep dealers will sell 120 units of the Wrangler Golden Eagle, and 150 units of the Freedom edition. Each has a special purpose: The Golden Eagle is a modern take on popular special editions of the 1980s. The Freedom is a celebration of the brand’s military heritage, with “Oscar Mike” badges, shorthand for “On the Move”.

What do you get for your Australian dollar, then? Ranging between $42,990 to $49,490 (that’s roughly $32,300 to $37,190 U.S. dollars), you get some distinct touches depending on which model you choose.

The Wrangler Golden Eagle offers up a big decal on the hood, for a start. Against a black exterior finish, the gold accents stand out to onlookers. On top of that, Australian buyers also get a body-colored hardtop and fenders, as well as 18-inch alloys. Rock rails, bronze badges and tinted windows finish off the exterior, while the interior is finished in golden eagle logos and bronze stitching.

As befits the name, the Freedom edition has star decals and “Oscar Mike” badges throughout, which gives off a more militaristic vibe. It has a Granite Crystal-colored grille and 18-inch five-spoke alloys, to the Wrangler Golden Eagle’s seven-spokes. The Freedom sports a red exterior finish with body-colored fenders, rock rails, and grey interior accents.
