According to a post on SupraMkV forums, the U.S. spec Toyota Supra may cost around $63,500.
“Cheap” is not usually a word you would associate with most sports cars these days. The cheapest BMW M car you can buy is the M2 at $54,500. The Audi RS3 is $54,900. The list goes on, but on the whole, sports cars tend to run for at least $50,000. Well, depending on your definition of a sports car.
Now, we’ve known for a little while that Toyota is getting ready to rejoin the sports car fray. It was a heavyweight contender in the 1990s with the Supra, but that name has been dormant for nearly two decades now. Happily, the legendary Supra is coming back. However, depending on your expectations, it may be a touch more expensive than you were expecting. According to a post on the SupraMkV forums from a user referencing an unnamed, unvetted source, Toyota’s revived sports car will smack your wallet for $63,500. For that money, you’ll get a two door, rear-wheel drive sports car with 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, courtesy of a 3.0-liter straight six engine. If that specific size of engine sounds familiar, that’s because the car was developed in tandem with the impending BMW Z4.
More BMWness
That’s not where the BMW similarities end, either. The new Supra will use a slightly re-skinned version of BMW’s iDrive, according to the post. The radio and HVAC controls also come from BMW, but in the Supra they’ll be split into two separate stacks. Even the steering wheel is a BMW wheel, just with a Toyota badge in the center. However, the rest of the may be bespoke to Toyota.
The new Supra may come with 5-spoke, 19-inch alloy wheels, a Heads-Up Display, Lane Keep Assist, Pre-Collision warning, Park Assist, and a digital gauge cluster.
The new Toyota Supra should make its debut alongside the 2019 BMW Z4 at this year’s Paris Auto Show in October. At this point, all the specs mentioned above are purely rumors, as the information isn’t coming from the forum member or anyone on the SupraMkV forums. However, if this information does turn out to be true, hopefully we’re in for a great sports car achievement from Toyota.
