When in doubt, pack in more horsepower.

The 2018 Ford Mustang GT may well be enough muscle car for most drivers. Pushing out 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque from its 5.0-liter V8, there’s plenty of power to break the rear wheels loose when you’re in the occasional mood. But let’s face it, cars like the Mustang aren’t just about having “enough”. They’re about power: pure, pavement-crushing, tire-shredding power. On that basis, 460 horsepower just. Isn’t. Enough. That’s where the all-new Shelby Super Snake comes in. Especially if you can’t wait for the new Mustang GT500.

Shelby American took their previous Super Snake and added an extra 50 horsepower to the mix, making up to 800 horsepower. In standard form, the supercharger bolted to the donor Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 pushes output up to 710 horsepower. The 800 horsepower figure comes from an extra tune on top. That’s enough to push the brand new Shelby Super Snake to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. To produce that figure consistently, the Shelby Super Snake has a new radiator, heat exchanger and performance half shafts. Bringing everything to a halt is a set of six-piston Brembo brakes at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear.

In addition to the performance upgrades, the new Shelby Super Snake has a revised front fascia. It looks different than an ordinary Mustang GT by way of a new hood, grille, air intakes and splitter. Pulling everything together is a set of 20-inch forged wheels.

The bad news? You know what it is. With great power comes with great responsibility, and a huge hit to your wallet. Including the price of the donor car, the Shelby Super Snake now costs $113,545. Customers can play around with options a bit to tweak that price, like a widebody kit or upgraded suspension, but that’s still one expensive Mustang. Still, 800 horsepower is pretty tempting.
