The 2019 BMW X2 M35i is no slouch when it comes to power.

When BMW first introduced the X2 earlier this year, it came packing a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Packing 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, the standard X2 manages a power figure in line with most of its competitors. Inevitably, though, we knew an M performance variant would be along in time.

Now, that time has arrived, as BMW unveils the 2019 X2 M35i to the world. It still has a 2.0-liter engine, but with a difference. This one produces 302 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, making it BMW’s most powerful 2.0-liter engine. To hit that power rating, BMW toughened up the crankshaft, fitted a larger turbocharger with more boost, and upgraded the cooling system.

The 2019 BMW X2 M35i also has a new M Sport front limited-slip differential to handle power as it’s routed through the 8-speed automatic transmission. The upshot is that the X2 M35i sprints from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, according to BMW. This performance variant also comes with M Sport suspension. That stiffens the car up and drops its ride height by 10 millimeters.

Design changes

Apart from the boost in performance, BMW also fitted sporty bits to the X2 M35i to distinguish it from the standard model. You get an aero kit similar to the M Sport Package on the normal X2, for a start. BMW also fitted a new rear spoiler and an M Sport exhaust system, and includes 19-inch M Sport wheels as standard equipment. 20-inch wheels are optional. Buyers can also get M sport seats in the X2 M35i. Those are available in Magma Red or Black Dakota Leather.

On the tech front, you get wireless Apple CarPlay support, although Android Auto users are still out of luck. The BMW Connected App is available to Android users, but that’s it. BMW fitted the X2 M35i with driver assistance features such as Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning.

BMW has not disclosed pricing yet, but we’d expect a premium on the standard xDrive28i’s $38,400 mark. The German automaker plans to launch production of the 2019 X2 M35i in November 2018. stay tuned to TFLcar.com for more updates!
