Audi RS5-R Heads to SEMA 2018: German Tuners Manage 530 Horsepower, Even Crazier 0-60 [News]

Almost 100 extra horsies under the hood.

ABT is a German tuning company that specializes in making fast cars go even faster. At the 2018 SEMA show in Las Vegas, ABT unveiled their latest project, the Audi RS5-R. Their upgrades include a notable power bump, handling improvements some aesthetic touches and beefier sound.

Under the Hood

The RS5-R still uses the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 that comes in the factory RS5. However, they have done some tweaks to the engine control unit. The standard Audi RS5 makes 444 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. With the help of ABT, those figures increase to 530 horsepower and 509 lb-ft of torque. As a direct result, the 0-62 time improves to a mere 3.6 seconds.

Not just for the drag strip

ABT have fit the RS5-R with a number of their in-house suspension components to improve handling. You get ABT sport anti-roll bars and ABT height-adjustable springs, though coil-over suspension with ABT shock absorbers will be an option in the future. It is stiffer, and height adjustable for maximum customization.

Carbon Fiber Everything

ABT went about tweaking the aesthetics by putting carbon fiber pretty much wherever you want it. There is a carbon front splitter, carbon grille surround, carbon aero pieces on the bumpers, optional front fender vents, side sills, rear decklid spoiler, and a menacing rear diffuser. Completing the back end is a set of quad four-inch carbon fiber exhaust tips.

But the carbon fiber doesn’t end there. The interior is also decked out in lightweight trim bits including the gear shifter, door and dash accents, and paddle shifters.

Limited to 50 Units, and Not Cheap

We don’t know when exactly you’ll be able to buy this beast. However, we do know that it will cost €29,900, or roughly $34,000 on top of the price of an Audi RS5. Total cost all-in, according to ABT, €114,890 or $130,000. ABT will only be making 50 units of its hyper-active RS5-R. The car is set to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, we should know even more around that time.
