Joining the Dark Side: Toyota Camry and Highlander Will Get Nightshade Special Editions [News]

Two of the 4Runner's siblings get blackout packages for 2019

Toyota has announced a pair of new blackout packages for the Camry and Highlander. Toyota calls this the Nightshade Special Edition, which we will be able to see in person at the LA Auto Show later this month. These aren’t the first Nightshades, as Toyota also announced a Nightshade version of the 4Runner at the State Fair of Texas.

Camry Nightshade

The Nightshade edition is based on the SE trim of the Camry. Of course, it adds a plethora of black trim pieces to the Camry to give it a more aggressive look. Included in the package are some 18-inch black alloy wheels, black window molding, black mirror caps, a black shark fin antenna, black door handles, and to cap it all off, some black Toyota badges.

Nightshade trim will be available in 3 colors on the 2019 Camry: Midnight Black Metallic, Celestial Silver, and Super White.

Toyota has not announced pricing for the Nightshade special edition yet. However, we will certainly learn this before the trim is available for sale in 2019.

Highlander Nightshade

The Highlander receives a nearly identical treatment. You also start with the SE trim, but Toyota adds 19-inch black alloy rims, with black lug nuts, black accents to the rear spoiler, a black shark fin antenna, black door handles, black mirror caps, black headlights, fog lamps, and black Toyota emblems to complete the look. The Highlander Nightshade will be available in these specific colors: Midnight Black Metallic, Predawn Gray Mica, Salsa Red Pearl, and Blizzard Pearl.

However, unlike the Camry, the Highlander Nightshade will have a limited production run. Toyota will produce just 5,000 Highlander Nightshades, also set to go on sale in 2019.

This is a mostly aesthetic package, so the Camry or Highlander underneath will drive and perform largely the same as the non-blacked out versions. To see what we think of the Camry, check out the video below:
