A new styling direction for Infiniti?

Debuting at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, the Infiniti QX Inspiration concept points the brand in a whole new styling direction. While the Nissan IMs concept also just debuted in Detroit, the QX Inspiration also has unique points all its own.

According to Infiniti president Christian Meunier, “The QX Inspiration marks the beginning of a new generation of INFINITI cars and establishes a direct blueprint for the brand’s first electric vehicle.”

While there are interior similarities between the Nissan IMs concept and the Inspiration (the rectangular steering wheel and front seats stand out), the QX Inspiration has a unique, novel rear seat. While it looks like a bench seat, the passenger side portion of the seat appears to have a built in leg rest.

Externally, the Nissan IMs and Infiniti QX Inspiration share a similar ride height which indicates a possible connection between their “advanced” air suspension. They may have a similar all-wheel drive system as well.

Exterior elements

The exterior design was inspired by the spatial concept of Ma. In Japanese, it’s a focus on the open spaces between lines. There’s an origami spirit here as well, with folding lines and unexpected simplicity. The overall design is uniquely, sophisticated, and straightforward.

Karim Habib, Infiniti’s design director, comments further. “There’s a very natural coalescence of technology and hospitality in Japan, and this is something very appropriate for Infiniti. We want the technology in our vehicles to create an experience that seamlessly enables and enhances the drive, while also making life comfortable and natural. That’s what inspires us, and we worked with those principles when designing QX Inspiration.”

One of the most striking components of the Infiniti QX Inspiration concept isn’t its advanced exterior design or interior. It’s the idea that, as of 2021, Infiniti intends to electrify its entire fleet. That means this design could be similar to a production model soon.
