Cadillac Doubles Down On Sedans, Confirms The 2020 CT4 Will Arrive This Year

Cadillac just unveiled a brand new sedan, the 2020 Cadillac CT5. Cadillac made it clear that the CT5 would serve as a replacement for both the CTS and the ATS in their lineup. However, according to Automotive News, Cadillac President Steve Carlisle confirmed the Cadillac CT4 will still arrive by the end of the year as well. But what will the CT4 be exactly?

Compact Luxury

Carlisle didn’t provide any more details than a rough arrival estimate. However, we can make some educated speculations based off of what we already know about Cadillac’s lineup. If you take a look at the crossover family, there are currently three vehicles: The XT4, XT5 and the impending XT6. The larger the number, the larger the vehicle. On that basis, the CT4 should slot in somewhere below the CT5 in terms of dimensions. As such, we’d expect it to compete somewhere around where the ATS was, despite the fact Cadillac claims the CT5 is replacing the ATS. This includes cars like the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Genesis G70.

Styling-wise, we expect the CT4 to share some family resemblance with the CT5. This means it will likely be taking some cues from the Cadillac Escala Concept, like its larger siblings in Cadillac’s lineup.

Powertrains?

When we say Carlisle didn’t say anything else about the CT4, we mean it. Unfortunately, there is no official word on powertrains. But, we can guess with some confidence that a 2.0-liter turbo is likely going to be available on the CT4. While there may be a tuned V-Sport or CT4-V version, we’re not terribly confident it will get a bigger engine for a performance model. Otherwise, it would step on the CT5’s turf.

More to come

For now, we have to wait and see what other information surfaces about the Cadillac CT4. We are not sure exactly when it will be announced in a more official format. Though ‘later this year’ could be as early as the New York Auto Show in April, or as late as the LA Auto Show in November.
