2020 Karma Revero GT Arrives With 535 Horsepower, BMW Engine

This updated model will go on sale later this year, according to Karma Automotive

2020 Karma Revero GT
The 2020 Karma Revero is a damn good-looking car, isn’t it?

Like before, it uses the engine as a power generator.

The Karma Revero is a bit of an enigma to those who even know of its existence. Remember the Fisker Karma? When the company went belly-up in 2013, Karma Automotive emerged from its ashes — backed by the Chinese Wanxiang Group — and brought out the Revero. While that car looked pretty much the same as the old Fisker, this is a different story. At this year’s Shanghai Auto Show, the company just revealed the Karma Revero GT. What’s more, this new model will go on sale later this year.

We’ve seen spy shot after spy shot of some sort of Karma Revero, so it’s nice to see a production model emerge. This one packs dual electric motors and an onboard engine as a range extender. Karma claims the Revero GT makes 535 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. That’s allegedly enough to hurtle the car to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. Not bad for a big, heavy electric sedan. Providing the backup power is a BMW inline-three engine, rather than the GM unit of old.

Thanks to the generator, Karma Automotive says you can get up to 360 miles of total range. On the battery pack alone, that range is more like 80 miles.

Karma didn’t announce pricing for the Revero GT, but don’t expect it to be cheap. The last Karma Revero went from $130,000 and up, so we expect this one to cost more. The company does have its headquarters and production facilities in California, so we will see this car before other global markets. From the U.S., Karma plans to expand to Europe and the Middle East as well as China by 2021.
