He has been missing since Wednesday.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office in California is currently searching for missing automotive journalist Davey G. Johnson, who was last heard from Wednesday evening. Johnson’s girlfriend appeared on “CBS This Morning“, saying he mysteriously vanished while on a motorcycle ride in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

He was reviewing a black Honda CB100R motorcycle for Car and Driver when he went missing. Police began searching Saturday morning, three days after his cell phone last pinged a tower in Amador County, California. After he rode through Sonora Pass Wednesday morning, he texted a friend at 8:30 A.M., saying he was on his way home.

The search turned up the motorcycle Johnson was riding Saturday, at a rest stop on California Route 49 near Mokelumne Hill. His gloves and helmet were on the bike, while searchers found his cell phone, laptop and backpack nearby. Car and Driver reports that police are focusing mainly on the river and the nearby highway.

Anyone with information should contact the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office at (209) 754-6500. Someone also set up a GoFundMe page to aid the search efforts, and that page passed its $15,000 goal within the first few hours.

As with the Car and Driver staff, fellow automotive journalists and the general public, we’re anxiously hoping for good news to arrive soon on Davey Johnson’s status. We will provide updates on the story as more information becomes available.
