Perhaps a new Ford GT racer?

The Mustang Shelby GT500 will make an appearance, as well.

For those out there who are Ford GT enthusiasts — we definitely count ourselves among them — there’s some exciting news. A new version of the Ford GT is on its way. This is the only shot we have showing the car so far, and it does offer some encouraging clues.

First, you can’t help but notice the massive wing on the back. That alone makes this Ford GT look like a proper racing car. Then there’s the roof scoop, also something you don’t see on the standard Ford GT. Apart from that, the rest of the car’s silhouette looks similar. Then again, there could be a lot more hiding in the darkness of this photo.

“Ford will make a special Ford GT supercar announcement during a dedicated press conference,” the company’s release says. However, we are in for a little bit of a wait. Ford will hold its press conference on July 4, during the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Hermann Salenbauch from Ford Performance and Larry Holt from Multimatic will be on hand for the announcement. The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and an all-new Ford Focus ST (that we aren’t getting) will be making their U.K. debuts at Goodwood as well.

2019 Ford GT Carbon Series
The standard Ford GT – even this “Carbon Series” model – has no huge rear wing or roof scoop.

That is all the information Ford provided for the moment. However, we are curious as to just how much more power this new Ford GT will have as well. The current model produces 647 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, with a top-speed of 216 mph.

Will this Ford GT variant have even more power and a higher top speed? We will just have to wait until July 4th to find out — a fitting date for a high-performance reveal. Stay tuned for more updates!
