This Is The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Before You’re Supposed To See It, In All Its Svelte Glory

If you thought the coupe was a looker…

The all-new BMW 8 Series coupe is already here, and we’ve tested the M850i xDrive version. Now though, there are some new leaked photos showing the inevitable 8 Series Gran Coupe. These photos were posted by BMW Blog earlier today. For those who aren’t familiar, “Gran Coupe” is the name BMW assigns to its four-door versions of two-door cars. Like its predecessors, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe keeps its signature coupe profile, while adding a bit more practicality to the mix.

Apart from that, the car retains its distinctive front end and its rear fascia, complete with the new-style thin taillights. This looks like the entry-level model, but its blue-painted brake calipers do suggest an M Sport package. We can’t see much of the interior, but it should largely mirror the 8 Series Coupe. That means leather surfaces everywhere, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment display.

Like the 8 Series coupe, we expect this Gran Coupe to use the same powertrains. Here in the U.S., the M850i xDrive model uses a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 with 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Down the line, BMW will introduce the M8 Gran Coupe, complete with more powerful engine options. The standard M8 ratchets the 4.4-liter engine’s horsepower up to 592, with the same 553 lb-ft of torque. Opting for the Competition ups the oomph again to 617 horsepower.

BMW will launch the 8 Series Gran Coupe soon, and we should know more information by then. Stay tuned for more updates! In the meantime, check out the coupe below:
