2020 Toyota 4Runner Venture Edition Builds On TRD Off-Road, Adds Another Near-TRD Pro Option

This slots just below the TRD Pro.

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner brought seven trims to the table for buyers to choose from. Now, the 2020 Toyota 4Runner Venture Edition adds an eighth, bringing the goods from the TRD Off-Road goods as well as some aesthetic touches from the top-dog TRD Pro.

The most distinctive feature of the 4Runner Venture Edition is the Yakima Megawarrior roof rack. Beyond that, the trim adds Gunmetal-colored 17-inch TRD wheels, as well as black skull caps, door handles, rear spoiler and badging. Since this is based on the TRD Off-Road and not the TRD Pro, the Venture does not add the more old-fashioned grille with “TOYOTA” across the front.

Inside, the 2020 Toyota 4Runner Venture Edition gets similar upgrades to the rest of the range. There’s a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display that now includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Toyota Safety Sense-P also comes standard across all 4Runners, adding a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic braking support. You also get lane departure warning, automatic high beams and radar cruise control. Toyota also added in standard all-weather floor mats and a rear cargo mat, as well as an optional rear sliding cargo deck.

Under the skin, the Venture Edition is the same as the TRD Off-Road trim. You still get a two-speed transfer case and a standard rear locker. Crawl control and Active Traction Control come standard, as does Multi-Terrain Select. The powertrain remains unchanged for 2020, as well. The 4Runner Venture Edition and others come with a 4.0-liter V6 engine that makes 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, mated to a five-speed transmission.

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner Venture Edition adds some aesthetic touches to make the SUV stand out against its more conventional trims. The slick touches, coupled to the 4Runner’s rugged, old-school charm may well see people opt for this over the TRD Off-Road, and maybe even the TRD Pro, at least if buyers don’t need the Fox shocks and skid plates the top-end 4Runner offers.

Pricing is not available just yet, but the 2020 Toyota 4Runner Venture should go on sale very soon. Other trims of the 2020 4Runner, including the TRD Pro and limited Nightshade Edition are on sale right now. Stay tuned for more updates!
