Fastest Explorer – seriously?
Running on 50% ethanol (E50), this tuned Ford Explorer ST may just be the fastest Explorer on the planet. It’s pretty much stock. Our friends at 5 Star Tuning accomplished this feat by avoiding the addition of any hardware. No special turbochargers, no changes to the running gear at all. It’s all in the tuning and the addition of a E50 blend in the gas tank.
That’s it.
How fast is “fast?”
How fast, you ask? According to 5 Star Tuning, it ran a 12.42 quarter mile at 109 miles per-hour. To put that into perspective, the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt TFLcar just tested has a quarter mile time around 12.9 seconds going 112.5 mph.

Check out the chart above. According to 5 Star Tuning, it shows the difference between stock with 93 octane fuel, 93 octane fuel with the tune and E50 with the tune. The chart shows maximum horsepower (using E50) appears to be just over 412 horsepower. Most notably, maximum torque is over 536 lbs-feet. That is a significant gain.
A lot of the tuning goes into the transmission’s programming as well.
The regular 2020 Ford Explorer puts out impressive numbers right off the bat. The higher performing 2020 Ford Explorer ST has a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that makes 400 hp and 415 lbs-feet of torque.
The 2020 Ford Explorer ST has been clocked at just under 14 seconds on a quarter mile run. That’s still fast, but this tune knocks off well over a second – which makes this Explorer one of the fastest street-legal, original hardware examples we’ve seen.

According to 5 Star Tuning, this tune only takes a few minutes to set up. While it is not recommended for towing, it is setup to work with the Explorer’s preset traction and performance setups. This means you can still use the various modes like snow/wet, sport, normal and ECO.
